So our neighbours daughter may play her keyboard far too early, play too much Lady Gaga far too loud and have a devilish habit of screaming at the top of her lungs then telling her mother it was us... fair play to her shes got some great birthday card making skills. I had no idea her and David Cameron were so close.

If you wish to own a similarly rad birthday card, or a greeting card for another occasion, I now have some bits for sale in my Etsy shop. Please have a browse - EMILY MAY ILLUSTRATION SHOP

Endangered Creature Alphabet

I was asked to draw a mighty African Elephant for the first page of the Endangered Creature Alphabet book, Creaturemag's latest collaborative project. It is an illustrated collection of 26 threatened species, drawn by 26 selected artists. Being the most insane animal lover I was obviously thrilled to be involved. I was mostly keen to tackle the task of drawing a leathery beast, which seemed a difficult one to me as I usually spend hours drawing tedious amounts of fur (which I freakishly love). I decided to keep it simple, focusing on colour, keeping the detail in small sections. I am really pleased with my final illustration, and was even more pleased when I was told mine would be making the front cover...

My illustration 'The City of Leeds' is featured in the second issue of Afterzine which is now available to buy in various creative stores and online.
Afterzine is a bi-annual arts and culture zine, curated by Vanity Fair editor Hamish Robertson, featuring a collection of invited works upon dictated themes. Other contributors included Mike Mills, Miranda July, Zooey Deschanel, Hans-Ulrich Obrist, Ben Jones and many many more. I was slightly shocked when I received an email from Hamish saying he loved my drawing after discovering my work when following me on twitter, and when he asked if I'd like to be involved in the next issue of his magazine I was totally stoked! This issue is a great read, I thoroughly recommend you check it out...

The launch party was held at Skylight Books in Los Angeles, photographs can be viewed here - http://la.popsugar.com/Afterzine-Launch-Party-Skylight-Books-Pictures-18257128

LOOP Arts Fair

As well as my 'British Tourists Abroad' collection and my 'I collect...' collection being exhibited at the Humbola Exhibition at Testspace in May, my work was also recently displayed at the LOOP Arts Fair. Hosted at Marshalls Mill in Leeds, LOOP Arts Fair was showcasing some of the most exciting and original applied artists, graphic designers and illustrators currently working in the UK. The huge list of contributors included Toy, Nous Vous, Matt Hodson, Drew Millward, Lizzy Steward and Jez Burrows. The weekend event included an art shop where you could pick up rare and limited edition prints, open studios to see artwork being made, debates, talks and evening events including live art and spoken word performances. Here are a few cheeky snaps...

HUMBOLA Exhibition

So my new collections were displayed at the HUMBOLA Exhibition in May and we were all thrilled with the success of the launch night. After lots of hard work from Hannah Jones aka JONES, the exhibition curator, designing the space and hanging everyones work, the room was soon packed full of faces ready to get involved in our humbola-tombola giveaway, browse some beautiful new artwork, buy some handmade goodies and drink lots and lots of wine. Illustrators involved included JONES, Becky Bruton Yeah, Hayley Wall, Drew Millward, Maisie Rees, Toby Triumph, With Your Hands, Jason Cover, Aimee Capstick and many more...

Adam Bligh

After randomly browsing my old degree course website, I stumbled upon the work of Adam Bligh, who must be graduating any day now. I can't find a portfolio, nothing but a link to his facebook page, but I just wanted to share with you this beautiful hand made set built for a Hyde Park Picture House postcard brief. I hope we see more of Adam Bligh in the near future...
